May (5th month) Sun Photography| Richmond, VA

I am not a huge fan of talking about myself, but I am long overdue for an introduction. My name is Mason Cobb. I am 26 years old, and the mother to a vivacious 3 year old, Octavia. Who I did in fact name after Okteivia kom Skaikru, Bloodreina, from The 100. I've been a hard core fan since 2014.

My Dad was my main inspiration, and definitely sparked my fascination for Photography. He had many albums and cigar boxes filled with prints from his days as a young man, and it was my favorite thing in the world to go through them with him. I felt like we were walking through time together. My pops gave me my first camera, a Canon Rebel XS, for Christmas in '09, and the following year he purchased me a 8mm fisheye lens. My dad supported me to follow my dreams, and trusted me at the mere age of 15 with some seriously expensive equipment. I still have this camera to this day, and have added two more cameras to my plethora of Photography equipment.

My Dad made me realize that Photography is Art. It allows you, your subject, and your viewer to see the world from a different point of view. Unfortunately I lost my Dad to his battle with Cancer in March 2020, but he still remains my source of motivation. I aspire to be great, and make it somewhere in the world of Photography; To show him that he believed in me for all the right reasons. That camera he bought me got me off the ground. I have been practicing the art for the last 12 years, and the last two as a business.

Photography for me is all about self expression. Whether that be through the outfits worn, the interaction between people, the type of lens and lighting settings used, and simply the composition of a photo. Photography allows you to create magical moments outside of the mundane.

My favorite genre of Photography would have to be fantasy/fiction. There's something about the use of smoke bombs and props really gets me going on the creative flows. I really love using abandoned buildings. They create a sense that the subject is an interdimensional traveler, and that they know something of the past of these ruins. I love capturing Fae Folk, Witches, Warlocks, and Elven alike. Bring your Family Grimoires, Charms, and Elemental Wisdom and let's make some magic!

I take pride in capturing the candid moments in my photo shoots. I get to work with a lot of families, and it's been an honor to work with so many different personalities, and see how they interact with one another. My business has allowed me the opportunity to work with restaurant/business owners, Models, Highschool and College Seniors, Newborns, Mothers to be, Engaged Couples, and all sorts of folks. I am truly blessed to make what I love my craft and share it with the world.

In my next post you can see some of the Best spots in Richmond, VA, to take or have your next photo shoot. Richmond still is my favorite place to plan a photo shoot for it's wide variety. You can find everything from river beaches, parks, to cityscapes, we have it all!
