How to style your next Family Photoshoot

The photographer you choose does play a big part in how your photos look upon being returned! BUT! The way you/your family dresses can make or break the session! I will give you some tips for styling your next family photo session that way you can achieve the look you were hoping for!

First you're going to want to coordinate colors, don't wear the same color.

The days of everyone wearing the same color to "match" are long over and thank goodness for that! The goal is to choose 3 or 4 colors that compliment each other. By that I mean they are all earthy tones, cool tones, warm tones, or neutral tones. The easiest way to do that is to start with a statement piece, like a dress with a floral pattern or a button up shirt with a classic pattern. Then pick up clothing for the rest of the family that draws from the colors in that outfit. Wonderful example of that in the above picture.

Say NO to characters or logos.

Unless you're branding or being paid by that specific company to wear their clothes in your next photoshoot, leave the Simply Southern at home. That also means the Paw Patrol shirts, leave those in the drawer for another day.

PRO TIP: Shop at the same store.

If you are buying new outfits for your photoshoot, it's wise to shop at the same store. They typically have seasonal outfits in the same tones, which makes it easy for styling.

Consider your home decor

No, I don't mean match the drapes. I just mean if you plan to print and hang them, consider the decor colors of the room, and keep that in mind when styling your shoot.

Lastly, have fun!

Make sure you're comfortable if it's going to be an extended shoot. Consider the amount of walking you're going to be doing depending on your location, discuss this with your photographer ahead of time. I am going to add some complimentary color palettes down below:
